John Mills, has been awarded an MBE in the New Year’s Honours List.
His honour is “Awarded for services to People with Rare Diseases through his role as Chair and Director of Operations of Vasculitis UK”
John, who since retiring as Chair has continued to serve Vasculitis UK as Vice-Chairman and Deputy Director of Operations, says:
“I am honoured to receive this MBE award on behalf of those many people whom have worked hard to make Vasculitis UK into an effective charity organisation which is for the benefit of all those suffering from this group of rare potentially fatal diseases known as vasculitis.
Vasculitis UK was created 13 years ago to fill the gap in support and information for those diagnosed with vasculitis. VUK is now known nationally & internationally but would not have achieved its current impact without constant support and encouragement from many others.
Those who have played a crucial innovative & supportive role include my wonderful wife Susan who deserves my eternal gratitude, my fellow trustees especially Dorothy & Peter, my successor, Zoi. Prof Jayne, Dr Lanyon, Prof Harper and many other medical professionals who have also become friends.
I would also like to take a moment to remember the late Patricia Fearnside. Vasculitis UK would probably not have come into existence without the formative support of Patricia, who played an instrumental role in developing the Vasculitis RareDisease route-map and the comprehensive VUK website”
